Do you regularly host OT students on clinical placements, or would you like to?
Do you wish you could make the whole process more efficient and sustainable?
Do you sometimes think the activities you’re offering students are a little overwhelming, boring or lack purpose?
Then this challenge is for you!
But where do you start!?
A good clinical educator starter kit should have templates, checklists, self-directed learning resources, guidelines for supervisors and much more. If you’d like to see what I’ve got in my own kit, keep scrolling 😉
You can either buy my kit and save yourself some time, or use this challenge as an opportunity to get your own kit started. If you don’t, chances are it will stay stuck on your to-do list for a long time!
This challenge is self-paced. When you sign-up, you’ll automatically receive your Day 1 email that will give you some tips for developing a specific resource, then 24 hours later you’ll receive your next email and so on for a total of 5 days.
To make this as accessible as possible you can start any day you like. You can choose to have a go at doing one resource each day for 5 days, or even space it out and do one a week – if you choose this option just pin the emails as they come through and block out some time in your diary to get them done.
At the end you’ll have the option to sign-up to add this challenge to your dashboard in the Your OT Tutor Learning Management System so you can easily find the instructions again if you need to, without needing to hunt through your emails.
You’ll also be able to access an online discussion board where you can send me any questions you might have, as well as share your progress so I can personally cheer you on!
So, what’s on the agenda? Here’s the 5 resources that will be covered in this challenge...
- Day 1 – Template for pre-placement email correspondence with students = the email you send out when students first get in contact with you.
- Day 2 – Handout for students: FAQs about your workplace = a handout you can send to students before they start that answers all the logistical questions, like where to park and uniform requirements.
- Day 3 – Handout for clients: Working with students = it’s important to think about how you explain to your clients or patients that students could potentially be involved in their care, and this handout could be part of this explanation.
- Day 4 – Self-directed learning case study = this is a scaffolded written case study with clinical reasoning questions that students can work through without you, to consolidate what they are learning when seeing clients (while also giving you some student-free time).
- Day 5 – Placement evaluation survey = this will give you tips for how to gather the students’ feedback about how the placement was run so that you can continue to improve your practice for future students.
This challenge is FREE so sign-up today and see how you go!

As a busy practice owner, I’ve absolutely loved having this resource available for my new grads . Even though I’ve got plenty of my own guides and sample FCA reports to share with them , what I lack is time to sit down and go through these step by step to make sure they truly understand the process. The 8 hours worth of online learning has been a massive investment for me and a valuable resource for my team. Thank you Clare Batkin!
Angie C - Director and Occupational Therapist
Clare has been an invaluable resource for me as a new graduate OT - I regularly check her business page: Your OT Tutor and have recommended my colleagues do the same for easy to digest updates and tips! Clare has gone out of her way to assist me with my CPD portfolio and provided me with such a helpful template to use (a life saver!). Clare is extremely helpful, approachable, and very responsive despite her busy schedule.
Brodie S - New Graduate OT
Clare has done a fabulous job with spearheading 'Your OT Tutor', a journal club that has really helped me stay up to date with the current evidence on topics directly relevant to my practice. Her approach is comprehensive yet practical, given how time-poor clinicians often are, and I am very much looking forward to our 2023 sessions. I highly recommend Clare to other OTs - those starting out as well as others who are more established in the profession - she is an absolute asset to both.
