1. What article did we discuss? We reviewed and discussed the "Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers/Injuries: Quick Reference Guide" which is a quick reference version of the full international clinical practice guidelines for pressure care management. We discussed some of the recommendations most applicable to OTs and compared the differences between the quick reference version and the full version.

2. What ‘Research Fundamentals’ tip was covered in this session? We discussed an overview of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), including what they are and how to interpret the strength of recommendations. We also listed some common CPGs relevant to OT.

3. What were the key points from the article critique? We used the University of Western Australia: Clinical Guidelines – Basic Critical Appraisal Tool. The take home message was that the research methodology used to create these guidelines was extremely thorough, however, to find out the full details you need to read the full version of the guideline.

4. What were some of the key take home messages from the discussion? A few recommendations were selected for discussion. OTs discussed barriers to taking a systematic approach to assessing pressure injury risk, and discussed factors that they consider when prescribing pressure relieving cushions. We discussed how we can support clients who are on extended periods of bed rest to heal a pressure injury, including using AT to facilitate activity engagement, then shared ideas for how to optimise the pressure injury education we provide to our clients and their families.

5. How are OTs going to use what they learnt in this session? Some OTs were keen to explore some new pressure injury risk assessments, while others were planning to put together a kit of resources to enhance the quality of the education they provide to clients...I feel a student project in the making ;)
