Are you jumping straight to a solution without thoroughly investigating the functional issue first?
Do you struggle to demonstrate the functional benefit or rule out low-cost options before moving to expensive equipment?
Are you prescribing without adequately evaluating outcomes or collecting data to demonstrate your value?
Or maybe you are an early-career clinician feeling completely overwhelmed by complex product information provided by equipment suppliers?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this AT Bundle is for you!
Developed in a special collaboration between Your OT Tutor and Otuition, this bundle brings together five practical courses to help community OTs strengthen their approach to everyday assistive technology prescription.
We don't focus on products and funding rules - they change on a daily basis! We teach you a repeatable, step-by-step process.
Inspired by Natasha Layton’s (2017) 8-step AT best-practice framework, you will strip it back to fundamental OT process to ensure you are prescribing safely, effectively, and with strong clinical justification.
Layton, N. (2017). Assistive Technology. In M. Curtin, M. Egan, & J. Adams (Eds.), Occupational therapy for people experiencing illness, injury or impairment: Promoting occupation and participation (7th ed., pp. 648-670). Elsevier.
This comprehensive bundle covers five of the most frequently prescribed pieces of assistive technology. In this course series we:
Discuss the AT prescription process in a step-by-step manner
Teach you the key things you need to know about different AT features and when you should prescribe them
Share our tips and insights for how to overcome common challenges
Work through a case study to help you pull all that information together
We cover these 5 pieces of assistive technology:
Standard Manual Wheelchairs - Learn to match the chair to the person, environment and meaningful activities to restore community access safely.
Mobility Scooters - Navigate the complexities of route assessment, cognitive capacity, and trials based on standardised tools, to prescribe an option with individual and community safety in mind.
Recliner Chairs - Stop over-prescribing and under-prescribing and choose a chair that works now and into the future with clear clinical justification.
Beds and Mattresses - Two pieces of AT covered in the one course! Explore pressure care management, electric profiling functions and risk assessment to select a comfortable, safe option.
Mobile Shower Commodes - Learn the importance of task analysis to understand how the client will be using the commode, to ensure you choose the option that optimises safety, function and independence.
We know that everyone learns differently and that the key to helping you implement what you're learning, and not just add more 'stuff' to your brain that you never use, is to unlock how YOU like to learn.
Each course is put together slightly differently to tailor it to what is most helpful for that piece of assistive technology, and it also reflects the different teaching styles of the presenters.
But here's what you will get:
Video presentations - between 1.5-2.5 hours of CPD per course
PowerPoint slides to add your own notes to
Full transcripts that you can read along with and highlight to minimise the need to write your own notes
Clinical reasoning guides that don't tell you what to do, but that guide you to ask the client and yourself the right questions, so you understand the WHY behind what you're prescribing
Quick reference guides for the AT prescription process
Measurement and assessment forms
A generic AT report template that is perfect for writing succinct, efficient reports with impact that get the funding you need
Completion certificates and CPD reflection forms to help you record the evidence you need for AHPRA

This course is ideal for occupational therapists working within a community or aged care setting. If you work in inpatient or outpatient settings and prescribe this equipment, you will still benefit, as the content focuses on core OT process and clinical reasoning. It is particularly great for early-career clinicians, or experienced therapists wanting to strip back their process to fundamentals.
The content is presented through an occupational therapy lens and assumes basic knowledge of functional and home assessments. Non-OTs may find it applicable if prescribing AT is within their professional scope, but supervision is highly recommended.
Yes! It comes with a generic AT report template that can be applied in caseloads where a formal template isn't designated (such as aged care). It focuses on capturing essential information efficiently. There are lots of other downloadable resources that will also help guide your reasoning and trials so you have the right information in the first place!
This course is a fantastic foundational point, but it cannot replace clinical supervision. It focuses on adult clients with basic functional needs. If your client has complex behavioural or postural support requirements, you will need to seek further professional development. We highly recommend discussing your AT prescriptions with your supervisor to ensure correct application of the principles covered in this course.
No, purchase is for one person only. If you have multiple staff members you would like to sign up, please get in contact to ask about our corporate bundles and discounts.
Clare, with this course you've really set the industry standard. I've completed just about every course on FCA for OT's out there and this is by far the most in-depth, presented in such a systematic and clear way - the effort you've put into making this course is abundantly clear, and honestly I'm so grateful that you've created this to kindly share with your professional network. This course gets a solid 5/5 for me - thank you so so much! :)

I commend Clare for her ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and create an engaging learning environment. Her passion for empowering clinicians and ensuring high-quality assessments that align with the core principles of the NDIS is truly commendable....I have found Clare to be approachable and responsive, always willing to provide answers and support when needed. Overall, Clare is an invaluable asset to any educational program or training initiative.
Kumar E - Principal Occupational Therapist
As a busy practice owner, I’ve absolutely loved having this resource available for my new grads . Even though I’ve got plenty of my own guides and sample FCA reports to share with them , what I lack is time to sit down and go through these step by step to make sure they truly understand the process. The 8 hours worth of online learning has been a massive investment for me and a valuable resource for my team. Thank you Clare Batkin!
Angie C - Director and Occupational Therapist
Clare has been an invaluable resource for me as a new graduate OT - I regularly check her business page: Your OT Tutor and have recommended my colleagues do the same for easy to digest updates and tips! Clare has gone out of her way to assist me with my CPD portfolio and provided me with such a helpful template to use (a life saver!). Clare is extremely helpful, approachable, and very responsive despite her busy schedule.
Brodie S - New Graduate OT
Clare has done a fabulous job with spearheading 'Your OT Tutor', a journal club that has really helped me stay up to date with the current evidence on topics directly relevant to my practice. Her approach is comprehensive yet practical, given how time-poor clinicians often are, and I am very much looking forward to our 2023 sessions. I highly recommend Clare to other OTs - those starting out as well as others who are more established in the profession - she is an absolute asset to both.
