Best wishes for your first role as a "real-life" OT!!
The workbook takes you through a step-by-step process for choosing the RIGHT OT Job for you. Sign-up for access to the webinar recording via the Your OT Tutor Learning Management System for extra tips and answers to frequently asked questions about choosing the right job.
Whether you're working in a hospital or community setting, chances are you may need to visit your client in their home within your first few months of working as an OT. Most settings will have their own risk assessment processes, but if not, these considerations will be helpful!
If you'll be working in the NDIS, it probably won't be too long until you're doing your first Functional Capacity Assessment. Sign-up for free access to this "Ask Me Anything" session recording where I answered frequently asked questions about completing FCAs with both adult and paediatric clients.
This is actually a reflection template - but if I called it that in the title, be honest - you probably would have kept scrolling! Being able to reflect on your skills and knowledge before supervision will help you get the most out of your sessions - I've tried to make this template as painless as possible with lots of examples, so see if it will be helpful for you!
If you find yourself in a small team without regular in-house education sessions on offer, the Your OT Tutor Journal Club sessions may be perfect for you! There are regular live sessions, or you can sign-up for on-demand access to recorded sessions on topics like home modifications, FND, pressure care, and cognitive rehabilitation. NB These sessions cost $18 once you are working, but they are FREE if you are still a student or yet to start your first OT role! Your access won't expire so why not sign-up for some freebies now!
Now that you're working you will need to complete 20 hours of CPD each year and keep accurate records of what you have learnt, as evidence for your registration. If you'd like to find out more about the AHPRA CPD requirements there are a range of resources and templates available via the link below.
As a busy practice owner, I’ve absolutely loved having this resource available for my new grads . Even though I’ve got plenty of my own guides and sample FCA reports to share with them , what I lack is time to sit down and go through these step by step to make sure they truly understand the process. The 8 hours worth of online learning has been a massive investment for me and a valuable resource for my team. Thank you Clare Batkin!
Angie C - Director and Occupational Therapist
Clare has been an invaluable resource for me as a new graduate OT - I regularly check her business page: Your OT Tutor and have recommended my colleagues do the same for easy to digest updates and tips! Clare has gone out of her way to assist me with my CPD portfolio and provided me with such a helpful template to use (a life saver!). Clare is extremely helpful, approachable, and very responsive despite her busy schedule.
Brodie S - New Graduate OT
Clare has done a fabulous job with spearheading 'Your OT Tutor', a journal club that has really helped me stay up to date with the current evidence on topics directly relevant to my practice. Her approach is comprehensive yet practical, given how time-poor clinicians often are, and I am very much looking forward to our 2023 sessions. I highly recommend Clare to other OTs - those starting out as well as others who are more established in the profession - she is an absolute asset to both.
