Learning Library Highlights - EBP Resources

November 12, 20254 min read

Welcome to the November edition of the Learning Library newsletter!

This month there are a couple of new additions from me and the spotlight is on my top evidence-based practice resources currently available in the library.

New additions

From me you can access:

- Download – Quality Improvement planning guide: If there’s a QI project you’re planning to get started on over the ‘quiet’ period over the Christmas and New Year break, this guide might be just what you need! It provides scaffolding and prompts to ensure you design solutions based on solid data gathering and stakeholder consultation, and that you build in time to actually check whether your solution works. Download it for free from the library!

- Video – Best practice AT steps: How thorough are you when it comes to prescribing assistive technology? Do you always start by identifying the functional issue? Do you always do a trial and make time for follow-up and evaluation after the AT has been delivered? If you think there may be some gaps, check out this quick video that will run through the steps you should be covering, and how you can do a deeper dive into this topic as a YOTT Connector member.

This month while I’ve been busy recording new content with some guest contributors, it’s not quite ready to release in this newsletter edition. You can expect it to be added in to the Library over the next month to end the year with a big finish! There will be mini-webinar recordings on mobility equipment hygiene, the OT role in matrescence and a pressure care myth busting session. Keep following me on LinkedIn to find out when they are added!

Focus topic: Evidence-based practice

There is a lot of content available in the Learning Library. This month we’re shining the spotlight on the best evidence-based practice resources available. You’ll find them all in Section 3 (Be an OT Nerd!) of your Library Here they are:

- Download – Evidence based practice: A guide for OTs – This downloadable PDF will run you through the 4 pillars of EBP, using a practice case study to help your understanding.

- Download – YOTT Key Appraisal Questions – If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by a CASP or McMaster critique form, but you know you still need to think critically about the journal articles you’re reading, this download is a nice way to ease into it. These 5 key questions will help you decide how trustworthy and relevant an article is before you use it to guide your practice.

- Download – Journal article searching proforma – If you’re not having much luck with a Google search when trying to find some relevant journal articles to guide your practice, you might need to do it properly with a database search. This guide will take you through the important things you need to know.

- Video – Finding more details in research review articles – If you’ve ever come across a great systematic review that suggests lots of interesting treatment approaches, only to be frustrated by the lack of detail about what those approaches involved, this video is worth a watch. It will help you dig deeper to find the detail you need.

- Journal club session – OT Role in sleep management – If you’re keen to make EBP a bigger part of your life in 2026, then joining a journal club is a great move, and joining the YOTT Journal Club is even better! Watch this free session to see if the format works for you!

Would you like to add your own resource to the Library one day?

All you need to do is fill in the EOI and tell me about your resource, and I’ll send you the T&Cs. The key point is you need to have a resource (video, webinar, download) that you would be happy for people to freely access via the Library, and in return you’ll get your own little marketing landing page and a plug in my socials and newsletters (including this one!). Find out more here or send me a DM.

Super keen but haven’t signed up to the Learning Library yet?

Do it today! All you need to do is add your name and email address via this link, then check your inbox or junk mail for the login details. If you’ve got an extra couple of minutes, you can even setup the free mobile app straight away.

I’m doing this because there are so many great OTs and other health professional out there with fantastic resources and education services, and the OT and allied health world just don’t know they exist. Spend less time searching for answers and reinventing the wheel, and more time working with your clients!

If you found this newsletter helpful, there’s so much more you can get from Your OT Tutor! Here are four ways I can help you become a better OT who loves what you do with professional development that is simple, practical and worth it!

1. Check out my on-demand courses

2. Book in some one-on-one or group training

3. Sign-up for one of my CPD memberships

4. Send me a DM and we can chat about how I can help!
