Welcome to the December edition of the Learning Library newsletter!

This month there are a few of new additions from me and some amazing collaborators, and the spotlight is on my top resources for OT students currently available in the library.

-Video – How to hit your billable KPI target: Do you struggle to reach a reasonable billable KPI target? This video takes you through 10 considerations you could reflect on that could be contributing to the problem. Sometimes it’s guilt about charging, clunky systems, or a lack of understanding about the importance of the target; understanding the ‘why’ will help you choose a strategy that works. -Download – The 10 steps to working collaboratively with support workers: Are you keen to work with your client’s support workers, but you’re not sure where to start? This download outlines a 10-step process to set up a program that succeeds. A big thank you to Stacey Manfield from Manfield Consulting and Carly Nisner from the Support Worker Association for sharing their experiences and expertise to help pull this framework together.

-Webinar – Equipment hygiene: The overlooked link in infection control: If you’re not routinely recommending your client has their wheelchair and other assistive technology thoroughly deep-cleaned on a regular basis, this webinar will tell you why you should! I’m joined by Kate Hughes from Pure Wheelchairs, who shares her expertise and free resources to help you educate and advocate for wheelchair cleaning for your clients.

-Webinar – Pressure care mythbusting: Would you know which end of the bed a mattress bolster goes? Do you know whether or not it’s OK to use a non-air mattress when someone has a pressure injury? If your answer is ‘not sure’ this quickfire webinar is worth watching! I’m joined by Ilissa Liew from Unicare Health, who helps bust 5 common myths about pressure care.

Focus topic: Top resources for OT students

There is a lot of content available in the Learning Library. This month we’re shining the spotlight on the most popular resources in the library for OT students:

-Download – Hospital OT Initial Assessment – This downloadable PDF covers the key questions you need to ask when completing an initial assessment with a patient in hospital.

-Download – Documentation examples – If you struggle with SOAP notes and wonder if there’s another way – there is! Access free examples of how to write progress notes in different formats and choose the approach that works best for you and your workplace.

-Video – Explaining the OT role – Explaining the OT role is one of the first things you’ll have a go at as an OT student. This video will introduce you to a framework to help your intro flow as effortlessly as it looks for your supervisors!

-Tutorial – NDIS Report Writing – If you need to write NDIS reports, this tutorial takes you through 3 key skills – how to describe your client’s function, how to report on standardised assessments, and how to incorporate research evidence effectively.

-Webinar – Effective clinical handover using ISBAR – If you get tongue-tied when trying to speak to other health professionals, or trying to give your supervisor an efficient overview of your client, the ISBAR framework can help. This webinar takes you through what it is, with some examples of what it looks like in practice.
