Learning Library Highlights: Resources for New Grad OTs

October 22, 2026•4 min read

Welcome to the October edition of the Learning Library newsletter!

This month I’ve got a new resource for you, plus I’ll be highlighting my top resources for helping new grads find the right job and feel organised in their new grad year. Sign up to the Learning Library to access everything for free!

New additions

Resource: Better AI prompts

In this resource I outline the components you should consider and include when putting together an AI prompt. Whether you are getting AI to help you create a session plan, develop a client education handout, or draft an email response, the better the prompt the better the output.

Focus topic: Resources for new grads

There is a lot of content available in the Learning Library, so the second half of the newsletter is always dedicated to highlighting some of the content you may have missed. The spotlight this month focuses on resources to help new grads choose the right job and do well in their new grad year:

  • Webinar – Everything you need to know about starting your OT career – In this collaboration with Dave Jereb, we share our top tips for choosing the right employer in a discussion-style webinar format.

  • Webinar – Your OT New Grad Year: What you need to know (6 months in) – Yep, it’s another collaboration with Dave Jereb; this time we’re focusing on what you need to know once you’ve found your first OT job. You’re past the exciting beginning, and while some things feel easier, there’s still often a feeling of overwhelm. We’ll tell you what’s normal, and what you can do to make the situation easier.

  • Download – Caseload tracker – Sometimes the hardest thing about being a new grad is staying on top of a growing caseload. This simple template helps you keep track of who is in your caseload, making it easier to judge whether you have capacity for more clients, plan who to ask your supervisor about, and so you have a ready-made list of back-up tasks when you have a cancellation.

  • Download – YOTT Reflection template – This is probably the last word you want to hear after finishing uni, but being able to think about your performance, how you can improve, but also what you’re doing well, will be instrumental in surviving your new grad year. This template helps you do it, without having to think about the Gibbs cycle explicitly!

  • Video – How to hit your billable target – This 5-minute video (which is a summary from a full webinar presented to Connector members) will help you be aware of some common issues that contribute to difficulty meeting a billable target in the private sector. If you know what your challenge might be, you can be proactive in seeking help to manage it.

Would you like to add your own resource to the Library one day?

All you need to do is fill in the EOI and tell me about your resource, and I’ll send you the T&Cs. The key point is you need to have a resource (video, webinar, download) that you would be happy for people to freely access via the Library, and in return you’ll get your own little marketing landing page and a plug in my socials and newsletters (including this one!).

Super keen but haven’t signed up to the Learning Library yet?

Do it today! All you need to do is add your name and email address via this link, then check your inbox or junk mail for the login details. If you’ve got an extra couple of minutes, you can even setup the free mobile app straight away.

I’m doing this because there are so many great OTs and other health professional out there with fantastic resources and education services, and the OT and allied health world just don’t know they exist. Spend less time searching for answers and reinventing the wheel, and more time working with your clients!

Have you heard about the latest way you can learn with me for free?

In case you missed it, I’m now officially host of my very own podcast called “How to be a better OT.” Series 1 was all about my ‘How to guides’ for common OT skills, including how to do an OT home assessment, how to do an OT hospital initial assessment, how to do a functional capacity assessment, and how to prescribe assistive technology. Later this month I’ll be back with Season 2, covering my best tips for various topics, including report writing, managing billable targets and standardised assessments.

Find it on your favourite podcast streaming platform, or check it out via my website here.
