Welcome to the March edition of the Learning Library newsletter!
This month there are some new contributions for you to check out – one from me, and a triple-header from my guest collaborator. The special feature for the month is my favourite frameworks. Sign-up to the Learning Library to access everything for free!
From me you can access an External CPD Request Form.
Do you need to justify the value of attending external professional development, either to your employer or to yourself? This template will help! This template prompts you to gather all the details about the professional development logistics, and to reflect on how the training will improve your service provision, whether it suits your goals and learning preferences, and how it fits in with the bigger picture goals of the business or workplace. All the evidence you need to convince yourself or your boss that it’s worth the investment!
From my collaborators:
This month I’ve got a triple-header of wheelchair prescription videos from Justin Boulos – The OT behind Wheelieworx and the Systematic Wheelchair Prescription FrameworkTM. Justin covers:
-How to make wheelchair adjustments for growth
-How to address a pelvic obliquity
-Why it's important that you don't hand over your wheelchair prescription to a supplier.
Watch these case study videos then head over to the Wheelieworx website for more details: https://wheelieworx.com/
If you’ve ever done any of my training or webinars, you’ll know I love a good framework; step-by-step processes or a good acronym can be instrumental in simplifying complex concepts. There are a couple of freebies in the Learning Library, and even more detail in the Alliance or Connector memberships (details in the Library).
Make sure you check these out:
-Clinical Handover: There’s a webinar and downloadable template to help you deliver clear and confident clinical handover using the ISBAR framework.
-Support workers: As private sector funding for therapies tightens there will be an expectation that we are collaborating with support workers to deliver our programs. You can download a PDF outlining a 10-step process for how to do this.
-FCA Process: For now FCAs are still in hot-demand, but how can you approach this type of referral systematically and efficiently? There’s a video and a flowchart available!
-Client education: If you need to provide client education but are not sure if you’re covering everything important or whether you’re pitching it at the right level, the RALFEY framework can help! There’s a video in the library that explains the framework to you.
-OT Models: Even though OT theory is something most OT students roll their eyes at, I guarantee it’s still helpful to come back to after you graduate. You can download a PDF with three of my top recommendations.
All you need to do is fill in the EOI and tell me about your resource, and I’ll send you the T&Cs. The key point is you need to have a resource (video, webinar, download) that you would be happy for people to freely access via the Library, and in return you’ll get your own little marketing landing page and a plug in my socials and newsletters (including this one!).
Do it today! All you need to do is add your name and email address via this link, then check your inbox or junk mail for the login details. If you’ve got an extra couple of minutes, you can even setup the free mobile app straight away.
I’m doing this because there are so many great OTs and other health professional out there with fantastic resources and education services, and the OT and allied health world just don’t know they exist.Spend less time searching for answers and reinventing the wheel, and more time working with your clients!
If you found this newsletter helpful, there’s so much more you can get from Your OT Tutor! Here are four ways I can help you become a better OT who loves what you do with professional development that is simple, practical and worth it!
