YOTT Learning Library - Top 10 resources to get you started!

January 06, 20257 min read

New year, new resource - welcome to the Your OT Tutor Learning Library! As part of my LinkedIn newsletter, each month I’ll bring you a summary of a resource or CPD recording you can access for free from the Your OT Tutor Learning Library. Sign-up to access the newsletter direct to your inbox

What’s the Learning Library Highlights newsletter all about?

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I give away lots of free stuff – free downloadable templates, free information sheets, free webinar recordings – you get the picture! Previously you used to have to sign-up for these freebies one at a time, but not anymore. Now you can access all my free resources and CPD in one place, via one login, that won’t expire!

It's called the Your OT Tutor Learning Library, and in this monthly newsletter I’ll bring you the highlights from the latest additions and featured resources.

Who is the Learning Library for?

The learning library has content that is suitable for OT students, occupational therapists working in a range of caseloads and with varying levels of experience, allied health assistants, and some of the content may even be helpful for other allied health professionals and those working within the disability sector in general.

Everyone is welcome to sign-up to access the content!

How does it work?

All you have to do is click on this link, then add your details via the sign-up button.

You’ll then receive some login details – they like to hide in your junk mail, so check there if you don’t see them, and just remember – they can’t get to you if there’s a typo in your email address so enter your details carefully!

Once you login you’ll see a Learning Library tile on your dashboard, and if you’ve ever signed up for another Your OT Tutor course or recording, they will appear on the dashboard too. So that means it’s the same login no matter how many courses you sign-up for! No more lost Zoom recording links 😊

You can start scrolling through the content, use the search bar to look for something specific, or download the mobile app and watch, listen or download wherever you are. This link will show you how to get the free mobile app that will work for all Your OT Tutor products.

What type of resources are included?

There are currently over 50 resources you can browse and access for free – with no expiry! It includes downloadable templates and information sheets, short video tips, and recorded webinars and tutorials.

To help get you started and to give you a feel for what you can find, here’s my top 10 suggestions (in no particular order):

  1. Quiz – Foundations of OT Success – do this detailed quiz to find out what aspect of your practice you could improve to help you become a better OT who loves what you do. Add your email address to get your results delivered to your inbox.

    2.      PDF Download – Hospital Initial Assessment template – this is a popular resource for OT students and new grads working within a hospital setting. Use it to help structure your initial interview, or to record your findings to help you write up your documentation.

    3.    PDF Download – Documentation examples – A common difficulty for OT students and new grads is documentation. You can download these free examples of progress notes (and you’ll see you don’t always have to use a rigid SOAP structure if it doesn’t work for you or your caseload!)

    4.     Word Doc Download – CPD Reflection Template – Some OTs believe the only evidence you need for your AHPRA CPD portfolio are the certificates of the courses you attended. These are nice to have, but you actually need evidence of a written reflection on what you learnt and how it will change your practice. This free template will make sure you tick all the boxes!

    5.      Video – When you don’t know the answer to your client’s question – This is a tricky situation that can come up for any OT student or OT. In this quick video I’ll show you what to do (and what not to do) to manage these scenarios.

    6.      Tutorial – NDIS Report Writing – In this recent recording I share three tips to improve your reports: how to give clear descriptions of your client’s function; how to present the findings of standardised assessments clearly; and how to include research evidence to strengthen your recommendations.

    7.      Webinar – Am I ready to host an allied health student clinical placement? – In this recording I talk you through 10 key questions you should ask before offering a student placement, so you can offer high quality learning experiences without burning yourself out in the process!

    8.      Tutorial – Effective communication for OT students – If you’re an OT student who struggles with talking to clients, families or your co-workers, this recording will help! It’s written with student supervisors in mind so they can also benefit from learning some tips for supporting students to develop this skill.

    9.      Webinar – Beyond burnout: Toward personal and professional resilience – I think everyone in the healthcare sector could use this right now. In this recording I was joined by the fantastic Julie Carlile and a panel of amazing OTs to help those feeling burnt out, as well as those wanting to avoid it. It was written with OTs in mind, but many non-OTs have watched and found it helpful – all welcome!

    10.  Webinar – Ask me anything: How to level-up your LinkedIn presence – If you’ve decided that LinkedIn is the place to be, but get frustrated when your posts go no-where, this recording will help. I answer your questions and share my top tips that I’ve used to reach over 13k followers and over 1.1 million impressions in 2024.

OK, I said top 10, but I’ve got a bonus shout-out for you…

  1. 1.      Webinar – Ask me anything: Functional capacity assessments (Parts 1, 2, and 3!) – In this webinar I answer frequently asked questions about NDIS FCAs. It was recorded a little while ago, so the new legislation changes aren’t discussed, but the majority of the content is still 100% relevant.

What can I expect from the Your OT Tutor Learning Library in the future?

This is just the beginning! I’m still creating content and will have more to add throughout 2025.

But I know I’m not an expert on everything. I also know my teaching style won’t work for everyone, but I’d like all OTs and OT students to be able to benefit from the library.

So the next phase will be an invitation to other OT content creators. You’ll have an opportunity to share a resource in the library, give yourself a plug for all the other awesome resources and services you may have, and use my network of OTs to kick-start your own following.

More info will be revealed soon, but after you’ve checked out the library, if you’ve got something you’d love to share, send me a DM and I’ll add you to my list to reach out to when I’m ready for phase 2!

So that’s probably enough to get you excited! Now follow this link, sign yourself up, embrace your inner OT Nerd and give yourself permission to be a little excited about learning!
