Learning Library Highlights: Guest Contributor Spotlight

May 18, 20264 min read

Welcome to the May edition of the Learning Library newsletter!

This month we have some fantastic new resources to help you streamline your clinical writing and navigate AT prescriptions. Plus, there are two new collaborative resources covering assistance dog suitability and mobile shower commodes. Finally, we are shining the spotlight on some of our amazing guest contributors who have shared their expertise with the community. Sign up to the Learning Library to access everything for free!

New additions

From me you can access:

Flowchart – Electric Riser Recliner Prescription: This flowchart outlines the step-by-step process of prescribing a recliner, starting from identifying the issue and completing trials, all the way to delivery and following-up the outcome. This is a sneak peek from my new collaborative project with Lauren Hart from Otuition called the Community AT Bundle, which covers the best practice steps for prescribing basic AT. You can check out the full bundle here: https://yott.au/community_at.

Video – Hyperlinking in Allied Health Reports: Have you ever felt your clinical report was full of fluff, telling the reader to jump to a certain section for more information? This short video shows you how to build-in clickable hyperlinks to streamline your writing and ensure the reader heads exactly where you want them to go. This snippet is from a recent YOTT membership webinar; to see the full recording covering PEO approaches and how to present standardised assessments, join the membership: https://yott.au/membership.

From my collaborators:

Download – Assistance Dog Suitability: Assistance dogs can support a client's independence and emotional regulation, but they are not suitable for every participant or environment. Developed in collaboration with Lara Bathurst from Independent Assistant Dog Suitability Advisory, this download outlines important questions to ask early on to prevent unmet expectations and NDIS funding complications. Connect with Lara for personalised advice on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lara-bathurst-752680210/.

Webinar – Prescribing Mobile Shower Commodes: Would you like to build your confidence with prescribing mobile shower commodes? In this webinar, I'm joined by clinical educator and OT Crystal Chan from Unicare Health to help you assess individual pressure care needs, build clinical reasoning for commode selection, and explore features that enhance posture and safety. Reach out to Crystal at crystal.chan@unicarehealth.com.au or visit https://unicare.au/ if you’d like help with tricky prescriptions.

Focus topic: Guest contributors

There is a lot of content available in the Learning Library, and not all of it is from me. The spotlight this month is on my guest contributors—a big thank you to everyone who has shared their expertise and resources with my Learning Library subscribers! Over the coming editions, we’ll be giving them a shout-out to make sure you didn’t miss what has been added:

·The Ultimate List of OT-Specific Facebook Groups: Curated by Leesa Musarra from the Occupational Therapy Learning Network, this comprehensive resource categorises 74 high-value OT communities to help you connect, collaborate, and find relevant CPD opportunities.

·Early Career Clinical Resource: Created by Alyce Svensk (The OT Coach Australia), this resource provides observation tools, timetable planning guides, and self-evaluation support to help new OTs refine their clinical skills and build confidence.

·What you didn't know about imposter syndrome: Leesa Tuffnell (The Mindful OT) shares a video exploring what imposter syndrome is, how it specifically impacts OTs, and practical ways we can manage it.

·Ask me anything: Becoming a sole trader OT: Experienced mentor Bek Chatellier shares her insights in this session to help you gain clarity and overcome the overwhelm of managing time, finances, and client relationships when setting up a business.

·Neuro-Affirming Paediatric Practice in an Impairment-Focused NDIS: Dave & the MoveAbout Team provide a free practical guide packed with insights and strategies to help you stay neuro-affirming and strengths-focused when working in the NDIS.

Would you like to add your own resource to the Library one day?

All you need to do is fill in the EOI and tell me about your resource, and I’ll send you the T&Cs. The key point is you need to have a resource (video, webinar, download) that you would be happy for people to freely access via the Library, and in return you’ll get your own little marketing landing page and a plug in my socials and newsletters (including this one!).

Super keen but haven’t signed up to the Learning Library yet?

Do it today! All you need to do is add your name and email address via this link, then check your inbox or junk mail for the login details. If you’ve got an extra couple of minutes, you can even setup the free mobile app straight away.

I’m doing this because there are so many great OTs and other health professional out there with fantastic resources and education services, and the OT and allied health world just don’t know they exist. Spend less time searching for answers and reinventing the wheel, and more time working with your clients!
